• Eagles Canyon Raceway - March
The Istook's Motorsports REVO MK II GTIs finished 1-2 in T3 at the SCCA National race, March 28th, at Eagles Canyon Raceway in Decatur, Texas. Don Istook, driving the #04 white GTI smashed the track record (his own) dropping it from a lap time of 2:12.711 down to a 2:04.298! Both Don and his teammate, Colin Cohen sit high on the SCCA Super Sweep points chase, with Don taking a considerable lead over the other T3 drivers across the nation.
The REVO software powered GTI's continue their string of victories, and both drivers have qualified for a guaranteed invitation to the SCCA National Championship Race (the runoffs) to be held at Road America in September. Additional sponsors are Carbotech Brakes and Hoosier Tires.
• Road Atlanta - March
Don Istook, driving the REVO VW T3 GTI won again, in the rain, March 21st at the SCCA Super Sweeps National Race held at Road Atlanta. This win gives the Istook's Motorsports entry a solid lead in the T3 class in the Super Sweeps Points chase with SCCA. So far in the 2010 season, the DSG shifted VW GTI has four wins and one second place finish. In addition to getting the class win, Istook bested half of the T2 field in the 18 lap race.
Istooks comments were "This was a pretty easy win. The traction control of the GTI is the best! I never locked the brakes, never slid in a corner...the car was sure footed for the entire race. We started to use the dry Hoosier tires, but at the last minute, the rain started coming down harder, so we went with the Hoosier wet tires. Never even came close to spinning!"
• Texas World Speedway - March
The Istook's Motorsports REVO VW T3 GTI DSG equipped cars pulled another sweep at the Lone Star Region SCCA Double National race event held on the 2.9 mile track at Texas World Speedway in College Station, Texas. The team picked up their winning ways from three weeks earlier, finishing 1-2 at the Saturday race, and 1st in the Sunday race (the #03 car did not compete Sunday due to prior driver commitments elsewhere). For the Saturday race, the drivers (Don Istook in the #04 GTI and Colin Cohen in the #03 GTI) reversed their finishing positions from a few weeks earlier at MSR Houston as Cohen edged out Istook for the win. The two had finished 1-2 in both races at the SCCA Double National in February.
In the Sunday race, Istook (who finished second in the nation last year in the SCCA Super Sweeps T3 points race) started 16th overall in the rain. By the end of the 16 lap race, he finshed 1st in class and fifth overall, ahead of all of the SCCA T1 and T2 cars, and half of the GT1 field. He now has a comfortable margin in the SCCA Super Sweeps points for 2010. After the race he said "The combination of the power that these GTI's have with the REVO engine and DSG tranmission software, and the excellent brakes through our dealings with Carbotech...I could outbrake any of the GT1 cars, including the Dodge Viper...these cars are EXCELLENT not just in the dry, but in the rain! I started the race on the Hoosier dry tires because I knew that unless the track was really puddled, I would still have pretty good grip with the Hoosiers."
• Texas World Speedway - February
The Istook's Motorsports REVO VW GTI's finished First and Second at the SCCA Queen of Hearts Double National at MSR Houston on February 13th and 14th. Don Istook, driving the #04 GTI, was able to hold off his teammate, Colin Cohen in the #03 GTI for the win in both races at the 2 day event. This was the first race weekend of the season for the GTI's, which will be followed by another SCCA Double National race the first weekend of March at Texas World Speedway. The team plans on contesting most of the eight National races in the Southwest Division, as well as 2 to 4 races out of the division, en route to the SCCA National Championship races at Road America in September.
In addition to campaigning the REVO VW GTI's in SCCA, the team is building a Mark II AUDI TT 3.2L Quattro to contest in the Grand-Am Continental Tire Challenge Series. Istook and Cohen raced as a team with a pair of AUDIT TT Quattros in SCCA for two seasons, then switched to Grand-Am in the KONI Challenge for two seasons in an AUDI TT. Istook campaigned one of the GTI's last season in SCCA, finishing 7th at the SCCA National Championships. To get to the Championship finale, he racked up an impressive record of 7 wins and one second with the REVO GTI.
