The Revo Technik Porsche GT3 Cup driven by Dave Bottom of Arroyo Grande,
California led the class for the first 35 minutes of the race when the
high track temperatures blistered the first set of tyres leading to
an off course excursion that sent the Porsche into the pits for repairs,
eventually dropping him back to 4th at the end of the race (pending
final results).
This was an incredibly tough race this year with ambient temperatures
exceeding 98F and no full course cautions through the entire event meant
this was a 4 hour sprint race, with fuel, tyre and driver changes.
The tribute to Le Mans is a 4 hour enduro that pits Porsche in three
GT classes, with usual entries form BMW and Ferrari owners in honor
of the famous Le Mans race every June is put on by Porsche Owners Club
of Southern California each June. The race has become so popular that
Pro Drivers come and join in as co-drivers with the club members to
run this special event. Run 2 hours in daylight and 2 hours in darkness,
this event was covered once again on SPEED Channel in a 30 minute special
that will be aired three times during the summer of ‘04.
In Sunday’s sprint race the Revo Technik Porsche jumped out to
an early lead and finished a more respectable 2nd in class after a long
mid-race battle with 5 other cars.
